Sandhill Cranes Over the Sangre de Cristos

Two sandhill cranes fly out of the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge at dawn. In the distance behind them, the Sangre de Cristo mountain range can be seen emerging from the fog, barely illuminated by the fresh sun.
